iPhone X: review, specs, and prices for Apple's new device

The new iPhone X is the making of a dream come true. Could you imagine that the device can be so smart that it understands you not only through Touch, word but also at first sight?

"Over the last ten years, we've been innovation, which has brought us to this point where we've finally been able to create devices that are much smarter, smarter, and more creative than they used to be," Tim Cook said at the iPhone 10 presentation, a.k.a. the iPhone X.

Design

The iPhone X was surprised by the absence of the Home button, which was previously one of the favorite "chips" in previous iPhone models. The body of the iPhone is made of tempered glass and framed with polished surgical steel. This model is available in two colors - silver and "space grey," but the front panel is entirely black in both versions.

Johnny, I've must have been thinking for a long time about making the flagship recognizable at first sight. And he succeeded. The front panel is easy to recognize through the cutout top, and the back cover is easily recognized through the non-standard vertical placement of the camera.

The iPhone X weighs 174 grams and measures 143.5x70.9x7.7 mm. It is slightly larger than the iPhone 8 or 7; however, smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone 7 Plus. In general, the smartphone looks incredibly stylish and modern, and even though its size in hand lies comfortably.

Moisture protection

Apple has taken care to protect the case from dirt and dust and the impact of moisture. The YR67 standard protects the device when immersed in water up to 1 meter. The company strongly does not recommend taking risks because the official warranty does not apply to cases of a device failure after moisture.

Display

The retina is perfect, and Super Retina HD with 3D Touch and standard contrast of 1,000,000:1 is much better. The 5.8-inch OLED screen occupies almost the smartphone's entire front panel, leaving only a thin, rounded frame and a noticeable "cutout" on top of the display. This "cutout," designed to accommodate the front-facing camera, speaker, and TrueDepth sensors, has caused a mixed impression.

The screen resolution is 2,436 × 1,125 points (458 pixels per inch), and the side ratio is 19.5: 9. This non-standard side ratio in the iPhone X provides that the screen is narrower and higher than the 16:9 extension. And under these conditions, the images, text, and interface elements on the iPhone X display look slightly smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus screen. Adapting apps to the new ratio is still in the process, and when you play full-screen video, there are sometimes problems, but we hope that developers will fix all of the issues soon.

Color reproduction impresses brightness and naturalness thanks to the P3 algorithm, which conveys the extended coverage of colors and shades. The screen is also endowed with a unique Technology True Tone. With the help of a 10-channel light sensor, which adjusts the balance of yellow and blue colors, the temperature of light relative to the environment reduces the load on the user's vision. Another unique feature is the Dolby Vision HDR support, which provides video playback with increased contrast and brightness.

Face ID and TrueDepth

Since the "Ten" does not have a Touch ID to unlock the phone, Apple has developed a unique faceID technology for facial recognition. Representatives of the company claim that this will provide a high level of protection. That is, "hacking" the security of the iPhone X is almost impossible.

The cutout on the top of the front, which has attracted so much attention from critics and users, puts an accurate depth camera system in itself. It is a whole system consisting of a 7-megapixel camera and an infrared camera, an INFRARED emitter, and a point projector.

What's this all about? Face ID biometric authentication is not without sensors that provide a detailed picture of the face structure. The TrueDepth camera designs about 30,000 invisible human eye dots, while the infrared camera reads them simultaneously, subsequently creating a 3D "snapshot" of the face in the infrared spectrum.

Face ID is activated when the device is first started and activated. The overall impression is that the process itself is more pleasant and more comfortable than setting up Touch ID. The process itself is exciting and immediately want to try all the possibilities of the novelty.

In general, users note that Face ID is a little slower than the Touch ID scanner, but this point is not crucial to attach importance to it. Another interesting detail is that when unlocking the iPhone X, you don't need to press anything. The smartphone screen is activated when the movement is detected, and when you look at it - the lock is removed.

Processor and performance

The iPhone X has a new 10 nanometer 6-core A11 Bionic processor with 64-bit architecture, operating at 2.39 GHz, which Apple claims is 70 percent faster than the A10. It's designed to work with neural networks and regularly improve and update software and successfully optimize algorithms. The Neural Engine engine, the M11 coprocessor, and the 3rd nuclear graphics accelerator are also built into it.

3GB of RAM will provide sufficient speed for the system. Now users will try the augmented reality technology AR-kit and forget about hang-ups and fully enjoy the bright graphics and mega-performance. Now the smartphone will "live" even longer because the distribution of complex processes and resource-intensive tasks will be more optimal than ever.

Autonomousness

Many users can't decide whether to buy an iPhone X or not, just because the difference in battery capacity is not too noticeable compared to previous models. If the iPhone 8 Plus has 2675 mAh, the new iPhone X boasts 2716 mAh. But this difference is imperceptible because the large display and high quality of expansion use no fewer resources.

The charging device takes place through the Lightning connector and the ability to charge or through induction charging wirelessly. The smartphone supports the standard of zi, so it is compatible with all chargers, or stations6 also support this standard.

Overall

Far from the cheap iPhone X, but at the same time, also the most modern smartphone from Apple honestly won its place in the hearts of users. This smartphone has received a completely updated design and materials, a high-quality display, and a system of cameras TrueDepth, Face ID, Animoji, and many new features, which generally bring the use of the smartphone to the next level.
